Eye-4-Style

What can I say? I’m at a NARS event; major players doing their craft, but out of the corner of my eye I’m looking to the left to the shoe department at Saks Fifth Avenue at Waterside Shops, Naples, Florida. I have all I can do to contain myself as I eye up the beauties just waiting to be appreciated. So one of my NARS gals, Brandi Perkins, senses my wondering eye to the shoe gallery. “Oh, do you have those in a size 7?” I inquire as I totally go from makeup to the several pair of shoes so beautifully displayed and waiting for the appreciative buyer. OKAY – so the Gucci’s are OUTRAGEOUS!  I’m telling you; the heel is part patent and suede and so delicious in presentation. Look at the detail-realize the comfort-it is a sure HIT! YES give me a pair of those. Then the Jimmy Choo’s:  lower heel and sexy pointed with open design reveal. HELLO! Very sexy. Girls, I’m telling you; when you see the shoes you love, buy them! They aren’t necessarily available everywhere and at every store in every size.  If they DO IT for you, get them. They won’t be there tomorrow.

How do you feel when you tour a showcase house for breast cancer or the local symphony, or go to the car show; art museum. You’re there to enjoy the beauty of what’s presented without the  thought of actually buying what you see. This is how I feel when I look at the designer collections. I’m not in the market to purchase what’s being shown but I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. The designs and fabrics are beautiful and to me, it is artwork. Don’t be afraid to look and touch if you have the chance. You may find something something similar that fits your budget. At least while looking at the beautiful creations, it gives you the opportunity to form an opinion of what would work for you; what you like. Enjoy the beauty!

My Feb 21st Blog talked about the trends at Saks and I went through the What’s New of the What’s New, What’s Now, What’s Next, Shop the Trends at Saks. The What’s New: all american, was difficult for me to choose my top 4 things I liked as I liked so many. The What’s Now: aggressive angles was difficult in finding 4 things I really liked, so I went on to the jewelry section of aggressive angles. I think these two dresses are GREAT, but the rest of the outfits weren’t styles I would wear or I care for as much.

Sarah Jessica Parker has been named President and Chief Creative Officer of Halston. She’ll have an equity stake in the brand, partly owned by Harvey Weinstein who’s been trying to revive the brand for several years. Sarah had launched a low-priced line, Bitten, in 2007, which was successful until the parent company (Steve & Barry’s) went bankrupt in 2008. I believe Parker’s role in Halston will benefit the brand and we’ll see great things in the near future!

I like to look at what the new contemporary designers are doing. Sometimes the fashion is geared toward a specific age group, which is fine but limiting. Designers may have a target-market age group but if they attract a lot of “fringe” either way, they’re hitting a home run and it’s good business.

akiko Yasuda is quite impressive in my book. Her small apartment T-shirt company to a major contemporary label lends belief to her talent in bringing clothing that impresses a wide range of shoppers. I bet we’ll be seeing a lot more of her work down the road.
