Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Victoria Beckham is one lucky girl and luckily for us, David Beckham and H&M are teaming up for a Super Bowl ad you don’t want to miss.

The hype is out there on ads we’ll see on Sunday, Feb 5th. I’ll take breaks during the game, but I don’t want to miss the commercials.

Something tells me when H&M’s ad is replayed, the “pause” button will come in handy Winking smile.

Thank you H&M.  You know how to sell it!

10 Best Super Bowl Ads? Novy.co agrees with these picks by Duane Dudek at JSONLINE.com

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

While we anticipate the Pats vs Giants competition,  we also look forward to the creative Super Bowl ads to entertain us.

111 million people watched the Super Bowl game last year and probably not many less watched the commercials. Advertisers pay big bucks to run their ads on the “biggest stage possible” and what ultimately becomes water-cooler talk, calls, tweets and articles the following weeks, as we dissect who got their message across or who tanked. Throughout the years, I recall fellow Super Bowl partiers looking at each other after an ad and saying, “Who, what?”  Ouch !

Novy Domains aka Novy.co, emphasizes the opportunity for .CO as a tool to promote business on the web. As far as TV advertising, Super Bowl advertisers with deep pockets can hit it out of the park. We all have our favorites but Duane Dudak at Milwaukee’s Journal Sentinel nailed the top ten…in my opinion!  Go to www.jsonline.com/blogs/entertainment/dudek.html.

Now try to pick your top two favorites out of the ten. It’s tough….I could only narrow it down to three!

Tom Brady and UGG: A Winning Pair

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

While men appreciate Tom Brady as NE Patriots’ 3x Super Bowl winning quarterback, and women appreciate….well… everything else, UGG appeals to both sexes with choosing Mr. Brady in UGG Australia’s first men’s campaign.

“Rugged” and “masculine” are words used to describe UGG men’s footwear and two things that come to my mind with thoughts about Mr. Brady.  (Who isn’t a little jealous of his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen…but what a beautiful family!)  And then to watch Tom’s talent on the field..what a dream!

The first UGG boots arrived in America from Australia  in 1978. Women’s UGGs growth has exploded the last decade with marketing to college girls as hip AND more serious-fashioned ladies in their teaming with Jimmy Choo in 2010. So the company decided to amp up the men’s side with its first-ever TV and digital blitz using Tom Brady as its “famous face” for the campaign. Touchdown!

Thirty-four year old Tom Brady’s no slouch in this equation either. The honors graduate of the University of Michigan, two-time NFL Most Valuable Player, realizes this partnership can outlast his career. It’s not like hanging up the sneakers when he retires from the field.

Tom Brady Slide 1

I give this partnership an A+. The UGG brand delivers warm footwear for cold New England winters for Mr. Brady, and the same along with feel-good appealing ads for everyone else.

Clinton Kelly cohost of TLC’s What Not To Wear, author of “Oh No She Didn’t”

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

Clinton’s ‘Top 100 Style Mistakes Women Make’ is a fun read and good advice! Some of my favorites:

Scuffed-up heels

This is where a black magic marker, furniture repair markers or shoe polish kit come in handy! Easy to remedy and big difference!

Low boobies

We can’t help gravity, but we gals hear it time and time again – get fitted by a professional!

Applying makeup in public

Ongoing discussion with gal pals, especially about lipstick. “Mom always says no” and Clinton does too. Find a restroom! I have to admit, I’m occasionally guilty!

Black addiction

Guilty as charged! and working on it. “Black is absolutely classic and often sophisticated, but best when used in moderation.”

Beige

Don’t be the beige block! Pair with a bright color by the face.

Slut shoes

Clinton’s take on this is hilarious!

Bad posture

One of my pet peeves. Straighten up, use those core muscles! I still remember my jr-high gym teacher yelling at us and she was right! I see ladies developing “widows’ hump” and rounded shoulders. Stand straight, shoulders back and all the other hints you’ve heard. Before you know it, your efforts will become automatic.

A fun book and very helpful. Thanks Clinton for your advice and humor!

Next stop for Jennifer Lopez? Kohl’s Department Store.

Friday, September 9th, 2011

How does she do it?  Jennifer’s 20-year career achievements are too numerous to mention, but this woman seems to grow more beautiful and diverse with age.

Her recent split from Marc Anthony had the tabloids reeling, but publicity is still publicity. This coincides well with her and Marc Anthony’s launch of women’s and mens clothing lines at Kohl’s Department Stores. What to expect?  “Casually glamorous, uncannily flattering, expensive-seeming “movie star on the go” pieces.” In September’s O Magazine Jennifer states: “I’m a mom. I work. I want comfort. But I want to feel sexy and modern. I think most women want the same things.”

Jennifer’s been involved in every step of the process, adamant the clothes would be pieces she’d actually wear herself. Realizing her figure and style, I think we’ll be pleasantly surprised that her “9-9” daytime looks with adding a sparkly accessory for nighttime, will fit in all the right places.

On a recent trip to Kohl’s Department Store, I inquired about the line. “We have the mannequins and you probably can see it on-line, but debut is expected September 13-14.” No thanks, I want to see the clothes, touch the fabrics in person. The dressing room will tell all.

Rachel Weisz–my celebrity girl crush

Monday, September 5th, 2011

Stars draw movie-goers, and Rachel Weisz brings a “done-deal” for me. At 41 years old, this London-born, Austrian-Hungarian along with Italian heritage, exhibits a naturally sensual look that keeps you engaged. A Cambridge graduate, her career includes modeling, TV and she continues to do theatre.  She acted in John Grisham’s “The Run Away Jury” and “The Mummy” franchise, but her work in “Enemy at the Gates” and “The Constant Gardener” (which she won an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award) sealed the deal for me.  Her complexity as an actress and avoidance of the paparazzi makes me take notice when offered a glimpse of her. The cover of the September issue of WSJ Magazine immediately caught my attention to read more.

Her provocative energy and subtle command of the photo shoot brought it to the table. She “demonstrated a keen ability to find the best angles for each look but avoided falling victim to fashion. When a pair of stunning high heels felt a bit too perilous, Weisz advocated for her feet, politely requesting a change.”

In September we’ll see the movie “Dream House” with Daniel Craig and “The Whistleblower.” She’ll soon begin filming the reboot of the Bourne franchise.  Her personal life? She shares her adopted home of New York with her 5-year old son from a previous boyfriend, and under-the-radar recent marriage to James Bond himself, Daniel Craig (my guy celebrity crush!) I couldn’t think of a better match and look forward to seeing her upcoming work. I’ll be at the movies! Smile
