No, not “The Break Up,” although we may want to call it that sometimes!
Busy gals have busy schedules. Let’s face it, we have commitments and we want to be looking our best. This takes prior planning because it’s not just the outfit, it’s the jewelry, shoes, purse, hair, makeup, “accessories.” It takes work to be “put together.” Even with a lot of prior planning, sometimes it JUST DOESN’T WORK.
Example: I was attending an event where I mentally worked out my “ensemble.” Dress, jewelry, shoes. The dress was a DVF I had worn before, then dropped off at the dry cleaner. A lovely white, v-neck, luscious material, almost “7-Year Itch” Marilyn Monroe dress. Fresh water pearl necklace with turquoise and semi-precious stone slider hitting the cleavage just right. I was looking forward to “the outfit” as the dress felt so good next to my skin. So late afternoon of the event, I took the dress out of the dry cleaning bag. WHAT IS THIS? My beautiful material dress is pilling everywhere! The dry cleaners did not clean it correctly. @%#&?&%# You get the picture.
So while lamenting the cost of the dress amortized over number of times wearing it (in public), I needed a quick change. I had already done my makeup for the Marilyn dress. This is where you can run into trouble because you’ll end up looking like you panicked. Ok, few deep breaths, yoga mode, trying to mentally put together a new outfit before ripping apart the closet. It ended up working because I took 90 seconds to first clear the head and put together a visual. A new outfit. The Badgley Mischka (which needed a few alterations but would still work), Stuart Weitzman shoes and purse, and lovely Mia & Me bracelets (white jade with Swarovski crystal) ended up being the perfect ensemble for the warm summer night on the club terrace.
The lesson here ladies, is don’t assume your outfit will be perfect from the dry cleaner, or will even fit. Try on your outfit beforehand or be sure to look it over carefully. It’s always good to have a “Back up.”

P.S. My Marilyn DVF is a now the perfect “lounging” dress. Eventually, it will become the “gardening” outfit!
