Eye-4-Style

I’m a paper and print gal. No Kindles or Nooks for me. Give me a book, magazine or newspaper any day. I’ve been called the “catalog queen” and I appreciate a well-designed quality catalog. It’s a great way to stay on top of the trends and discover designers and styles that appeal to you.

While paging through, I look for items that could stay in my closet for a while or that I say “wow” and fold over the page to go back to.  I don’t mind splurging on items I know I’ll enjoy for years to come. From Saks’ catalog, two pair of shoes I picked:

If you haven’t heard, Friday Sept 10th is Fashion’s Night Out. Good idea. Why? I don’t know how it came about but I say let’s put a little energy and merriment into our lives as we begin the fall season. Lift our spirits as we remember September 11th. Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan was buzzing with shoppers for sales and new merchandise. I found two tops for fall and a fun pair of shoes. Check out your nearest store or click here  for on-line.

Here is a great bag at Saks Fifth Avenue that you will use again and again. I like the size; you’re not limited to a lipstick and comb and the fact it’s a shoulder bag makes party-going easier. Two zippered-pockets is good to protect credit cards and cash. I’d also pair it with a pair of jeans and t-shirt to add extra sparkle. Click here for more info.

Here are my picks for what could take you from opera night to cocktail party to travel to night on the town. While on my “wish list,” there’s even a few on sale.

This is gorgeous;  Oscar de la Renta Cloque Print Dress! To complete the outfit, add the necklace as shown. Wow – what a show stopper!

Donna Karan Infinity Dress/Skirt.  It is shown here with a jersey top, which I think is a cool look. The dress by itself is elegant and a great “go-to” in your closet.

Donna Karan Sculpted Shawl Collar Jacket with bodysuit and skirt. Love this look!  I’d take a patterned bag for day; clutch with statement earrings for night.

Halston Heritage Stretch Knit Cocktail Dress.  Great for your nights out on the town!

Oscar de la Renta Sleeveless Crinkled Silk Taffeta Dress . Beautiful color and style!

Ralph Lauren Black Label Sleeveless Leather-Trim Dress.  I like the dress with the shoes and would use this as a reference for what works well. This dress would be a great traveling/tour dress with cute flats.

SATC 2 Memorial Day Weekend and invite for “A Woman’s Excellent Extravaganza” brought a purpose to shopping in Palm Beach, Florida, last April. There was the movie pre-party; movie; movie after-party; next day a champagne carriage ride through parks of St. Louis followed by lunch at the St. Louis Woman’s Club.

Shopping for a specific event can be tedious as it seems “I can’t find anything!” when looking, while you find all sorts of items when you’re just browsing. Anyway, BINGO at Saks on Worth Avenue. The nanette lepore dress fit the bill and the hat by Peter Bettley was the prize buy! I wore Prada Calzature Donna Quarzo T-strap heels and flower pearl button earrings by Erwin Pearl.

The sales gals at Saks were great and I shipped items directly to St. Louis for the big event.

Of course in the end, we’re our own worst critics. The hat and dress were a lot on their own, so I didn’t wear a necklace. In looking at the pictures, I should have pulled up my dress (eecks – and before 3:00 pm! Champagne will do that!) or a string of pearls would have been fine.  All-in-all I was pleased; I had great luck with beautiful merchandise at Saks! (And an excellent weekend!)

The eye-4-style site is under maintenance and I’m in the process of moving, but there’s so much talk about! Chicago’s Michigan Avenue; Worth Avenue in Palm Beach; The International Plaza in Tampa; The Waterside Shops in Naples, and today, The Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. I could have spent the day at Nordstrom! Macy’s and Saks, Bloomingdales and Michael Kors just to name a few others, are presenting great fashion for all body shapes and budgets. Fabrics, colors and styles are amazing! Cosmetics and skin care are just getting better. Always have to stop by the NARS counters and Elemis for skin care.  I’m also delighted by the sales personnel. Always feel free to talk to them about merchandise and products. They are knowledgeable, pleasant and very helpful in taking care of the customer to find what they’re looking for. Smiles all around!

Think About … Newsworthy Nature

Ah! The catalog in the mail. You spot it; the anticipation of looking through the newest and greatest out there. Nothing replaces perusing a fine catalog in print; the heaviness of the page; the detail to showing clothing and accessories at their best. Peruse in your bed, library, patio, pool.  Just as I appreciate reading a book and flipping the pages; going to the library (the Dewey Decimal System-genius!), the catalog is a pleasure we shoppers really appreciate. Here’s my top five favorites from the Saks Fifth Avenue catalog March Fashion 2010.

What can I say? I’m at a NARS event; major players doing their craft, but out of the corner of my eye I’m looking to the left to the shoe department at Saks Fifth Avenue at Waterside Shops, Naples, Florida. I have all I can do to contain myself as I eye up the beauties just waiting to be appreciated. So one of my NARS gals, Brandi Perkins, senses my wondering eye to the shoe gallery. “Oh, do you have those in a size 7?” I inquire as I totally go from makeup to the several pair of shoes so beautifully displayed and waiting for the appreciative buyer. OKAY – so the Gucci’s are OUTRAGEOUS!  I’m telling you; the heel is part patent and suede and so delicious in presentation. Look at the detail-realize the comfort-it is a sure HIT! YES give me a pair of those. Then the Jimmy Choo’s:  lower heel and sexy pointed with open design reveal. HELLO! Very sexy. Girls, I’m telling you; when you see the shoes you love, buy them! They aren’t necessarily available everywhere and at every store in every size.  If they DO IT for you, get them. They won’t be there tomorrow.
